The Creation of Sala & Betty
Realizing that in a world where people have busy schedules (for example her sister) and no time to cook for themselves or their family, there really was no wholesome and well prepared foods ready to go for the public. Local Austin chef and restaurateur Teresa Wilson wanted something honest and close to heart that would tie in to this concept. One of the long lasting loves that has been important to Teresa is preparing well executed, wholesome food that is simple yet more elaborate than a typical casual restaurant. This helped Teresa find the name for the restaurant that was personal and relevant. Sala & Betty’s name exemplifies the purpose and spirit of what Teresa believes in.
Sala & Betty are the childhood monikors of Teresa (“Betty”) and her sister Toni (“Sala”) when they were children playing house and “restaurant”. From mud-pies to sidewalk snails there was always a creative menu. Through many years of experience in the restaurant industry, Teresa has maintained that same original creativity, yet refined her cooking and crafting skills through various styles, flavors, and cuisines.
Sala represents the drive- thru side for people with busy lives like sister Toni, & Betty is for Teresa who prefers to offer more elaborate meals for those caring to dine in. The Yin & the Yang, The Sweet & Sassy, The Sala & Betty.
Sala & Betty wouldn't be complete if it was not for her other partner in culinary crime, her husband Terry Wilson. Terry and Teresa decided to embark on this new culinary journey together, as Teresa's first restaurant "Aquarelle" was what brought them together, and throughout the years "Mr.T" has deeply developed a love for soulful cooking- from Teresa's delicious home-made meals that their family eats daily, to the food in her restaurants and caterings.
